Mind Matters, PC recognizes the important role the expressive arts (poetry, music, visual art, dance, and more) can have in healing. You may want to incorporate these expressive therapies into your mental health treatment. Please feel comfortable to discuss this with your therapist.

We also want to inform you of the arts & healing activities of retired child psychiatrist, Dr. Diane Kaufman, who is dedicated to transforming trauma and despair into life affirming creativity. Dr. Kaufman was employed at Mind Matters from November 2016 through June 2023. She is a poet, artist, author, and humanism-in-medicine awardee. In 2019 she received the Frank L. Babbott Award from the Downstate Medical Center’s Alumni Association in recognition of her exemplary service to both the medical profession and general community.

Dr. Kaufman is an internationally award-winning lyricist. She is the founder/director of the Hold On Campaign for Suicide Prevention which uses the power of art to connect, express, and heal.
